Title: Documentation Required to create the change in phases between active and wellness care
CEs: 3 Hours

In this session we will cover how proper case creation allows for doctors to show that patients have moved between phases of care in order to accurately report exactly where a patient is in their care. This process helps doctors to reduce coding problems and risk management issues that are created by the use of continuous wellness care without taking into account the patient’s true condition because the true nature of the condition was not documented correctly.

Dr. Davila graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic and then ran 3 successful practices in South Carolina. Since 2000, Dr. Davila has been training doctors and staff on federal and state insurance compliance as well as working with several chiropractor colleges to improve compliance education. He is considered a foremost expert and has consulted for Axis Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina, American Specialty Health Network, Colonial Life, and others. He also served on the American Chiropractic Association’s Medicare Advisory and Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue CHIP Committees.

Title: Patient Safety and Preventing Clinical Errors
CEs: 2 Hours

As health care providers, we have all taken the oath of "First do no harm". But how is this defined from a risk management perspective in patient care? Learn how to decipher the types of events that could lead to a clinical error and how to prevent adverse events or near misses from occurring in the first place. Begin to understand how to "set-up" defense layers within your practice to ensure safety for your patients. In addition, blood borne, and air borne pathogens represent a risk to both doctor, staff and patient – understanding the concept of universal precautions and how to safely apply procedures deemed as a high risk is important to overall safety.

Dr. Scott Munsterman is an acknowledged expert on the transforming model of health care delivery and compliance with a commitment to the promotion and advancement of the chiropractic profession. Dr. Munsterman is founder and CEO of Best Practices Academy, a clinical improvement organization providing focused leadership to bring practices into compliance with regulatory standards, equip them to improve clinical outcomes, and integrate into the transformed care delivery system. Dr. Scott believes chiropractic has a significant role to serve, but challenges to face, to achieve the chiropractic profession's rightful role in care delivery.

Dr. Munsterman is a graduate of Northwestern Health Sciences University, where he has served as Vice-chair of the Board of Trustees and on the President's Cabinet as Chief of Care Delivery. He was awarded Chiropractor of the Year in South Dakota and the Fellow of the International College of Chiropractors (FICC). He is a professional compliance officer. Dr. Munsterman served two terms as Mayor of the City of Brookings and three consecutive terms in the South Dakota House of Representatives, where he chaired the House Health and Human Services Committee and the Legislative Planning Committee.
